 Welcome!

Welcome from the clergy

Rev. Greg Carpenter

Welcome to the website for St Jude’s, Wexford. We are a vibrant Anglican parish that has been serving this area of Toronto since 1848.

We strive to be an open and welcoming faith community for any who are looking for a new spiritual home and for those who appreciate the liturgy of the Anglican Church.

I hope you will take the time to drop by sometime and check us out - during the week or on Sundays.

June 20, 2010 - Homily at Choral Evensong

at the Cathedral Church of St. James

"Follow me ..."

This is a panel from a larger altar piece created by Duccio di Buoninsegna called the Maestą in 1308 chronicling the life of Jesus.  It is housed in the National Gallery in Washington, D.C..

This particular piece focuses on the call of the fishermen brothers Peter and Andrew whom Jesus called saying "Follow me, and I will make you fish for people."

Palms and Palm Crosses for Ashes

To prepare for Ash Wednesday on Feb. 22 which starts the season of Lent in 2012, you are encouraged to bring your palms and palm crosses from last year to the Church.  We will use them to make ashes used for that day.  Please return them by Sunday Feb. 19.

St. Jude’s Historic Chapel – Looking to the Future

We know that many members of our congregation had an opportunity to visit our chapel at the open house on the day of the garage sale in September.   Some of our congregation were members of St. Jude’s when that fledgling chapel was our only place of worship even as our numbers grew and were far outreaching its capacity.   (continued...)

Parking

We are fortunate to have a moderate sized parking lot here at St. Jude’s.

However, if you are driving to St. Jude’s on a Sunday morning, please note the parking restrictions on Howarth Avenue close to the school.

These restrictions are in place on the weekends as well as through the week. The parish in not able to intervene if you receive a ticket.

 Daycare Openings

A Child's Place Daycare Centre has vacancies in the Junior and Senior age-groups. Please contact if you are interested.

Carols from the Ukraine - Jan. 27

On Friday Jan. 27, 2012 at 7:00pm in the Church we welcome the St. Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Parish Choir and Musicus  Bortnianski as they present a concert of Orthodox Christmas music (as the Orthodox season of Christmas draws to a close).

Tickets are available at the door for $15.  A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the St. Jude's Chapel Restoration Fund.  Tickets are available in advance from Kathy Hodge or through the office.

Sunday School Update

Kids are always welcome at St Jude’s!  Our Sunday School is offered twice a month, on the second and fourth Sundays with activities and faith formation.  We start off in church and then go to class after the Kid’s Time at the beginning of the service.

For those who wish to remain in Church; closer to their parents, we have set up a child-friendly area beside the baptismal font for children with colouring and other activities to do during the service and still be in Church.

If you have an interest in helping with Sunday School please contact  at 416-755-5872.

Altar Guild Occasional Helpers

We need some people we can call on to help on an occasional basis for 30 minutes after the 10:30am Sunday service in the sacristy if our clean-up team is short of people.  With summer holidays and winter snow-birds, we sometimes find ourselves short of helpers.  If you could spare some time or would like more information, please contact Betty Lamb.  Thank you!

The Food Bank Needs Your Help

The Food Bank at St Jude’s is open on Wednesday mornings from 10:00am – Noon.  We serve an average of 35-40 families each week; many of whom are single parents with multiple children.

Our weekly volunteers, local churches and other generous donors help us meet the growing demands of those who are not able to make ends meet.  Thanks to all those who bring their time and energy to this program.

If you would like to volunteer in any way, please contact Janet Timbrell through the Parish Office 416-755-5872.

Some items that are always in need for the Food Bank include:

·         Spaghetti (no other pasta please), spaghetti sauce

·         Kraft dinner

·         CANNED:  meat, fish, stew, fruit

·         Peanut butter, soda crackers and sugar

·         Empty ketchup bottles or small glass bottles

We also accept monetary donations.  Please indicate on the envelope ‘Food Bank’, and if you would like a tax receipt we will need your address and contact information.

Thank you for any level of generosity.
